The Journey, explained
Journey mode is 8flowy's curated campaign: 200 hand-scheduled levels that climb from tutorial-gentle 5×5 boards to an expert 10×10 finale. Free play deals random boards; the Journey is a designed ramp — each level unlocks the next, and every board along the way is verified unique-solution like everything else in the game.
How the ramp works
The first ten levels are a gentle on-ramp on 5×5 and 6×6 boards. After that the Journey moves in teeth: blocks of five levels that each climb from an easier board to a harder one, then dip and climb again slightly higher — a sawtooth that rises through 6×6, 7×7, 8×8, 9×9 and finally 10×10. The dips are deliberate breathing room; the last few teeth are nearly all hard and expert boards.
Stars
Every cleared level banks up to three stars based on your time (about 1.6 seconds per square for three stars, double that for two). Stars are per-level bests — replay any cleared level to improve them. They feed two achievements (Star Collector at 100 stars, Triple Flow for 25 three-star levels), and chasing them is the best speed training in the game: a board you've solved once becomes a pure execution drill.
Milestones
- Level 10: Rising Star — the ramp is done; real boards begin.
- Level 50: In the Flow — you've met every board size up to 7×7.
- Level 200: Pipe Master — the whole Journey, including the expert 10×10 finale.
Getting through the hard teeth
- Don't grind a wall. Stuck on a level for ten minutes? The next size down in free play, on hard, is the same lesson with fresh boards. Come back sharper.
- Hints don't lock you out of anything except that solve's cleanliness — stars only care about time (a hint's 10-second penalty included). Using one to see a sponge route teaches more than staring.
- The finale is region play. The last teeth are won with the pocket-entrance counts and the sponge-last order from the strategy guide — raw pattern speed isn't enough at 10×10.
Progress & sync
Journey progress saves locally the moment you clear a level; sign in and it also syncs across devices (highest stars win in a merge, so you never lose a best). You can reset your Journey in settings — stars and all — if you ever want the climb again from level 1.
